BRAKEFIELD David (Dave) Clark Brakefield,
our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and
friend passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2001, at his home in Yukon.
Dave was born and raised in Oklahoma and lived almost his entire life in
Yukon, OK. He was born on April 28, 1926 to Ernest and Lou Brakefield,
both of whom are now deceased. He grew up on a farm southwest of Yukon
and as a child went to a one-room Country school and attended West Point
Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and
upon returning from the war he finished his high school education. While
in school he was active in all sports and one of the years he played
football they won all their games and were never even scored upon. It
was a perfect year for Yukon High School football. While in high school
and before enlisting for the Navy, he worked at Cimarron Air Field west
of Yukon and earned his license to fly. After school he worked for the
Armour Meat Packing plant located near the stockyards in Oklahoma City.
After Armour closed its doors in Oklahoma City, he moved to their plant
in Indianapolis, Indiana. On May 16, 1953 he married Margaret (Marge)
Mach Kouba, the love of his life. Being married to her was the one thing
that made him so proud and feel good about. This was something he had
even before cancer took control and ended his life, the devotion of a
loving, beautiful woman who stood unselfishly by his side. She had been
there through every day of their 48-year marriage and her love did not
fade in his hour of tragic illness. In all of his pain and suffering
"She was all he ever needed". After their marriage they lived in
Indianapolis, Indiana until the Armour plant closed there. They moved to
Oklahoma City and Dave worked for the Wonder Bread Bakery and worked
with a custom harvest crew as well. In 1956 he started in the plumbing
and heating business and moved it to 115 W. Main, Yukon, Oklahoma in
1960. His Brakefield Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning is known in
all parts of the state, and he was referrd by many as the master of his
trade. He was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Yukon,
Oklahoma, a Carmelite Associate of Carmelite Sisters of St. Therese of
the Infant Jesus in Oklahoma City, a 40 year member of the former Loyal
Order of the Yukon Moose Lodge #1785 and the Moose Legion as well,
American Legion Post #160, Yukon, Oklahoma, Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post #382 of El Reno, Oklahoma, the U.S.S. Whiteside Association, his
