Sister Mary Bernadette McQuaid

MCQUAID Sister Mary Bernadette, born February 20, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY, died at the Carmelite Monastery of St. Joseph, Piedmont, OK on March 26, 1999. Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph McQuaid and Ella Dee McQuaid; her sister, Helen McNicholas; and brother Joseph McQuaid. She is survived by nine nieces and nephews: Helen Marie, Joseph, James and Gerard McNicholas; Joseph, Timothy, and James McQuaid, Kathleen Freehill, and Mary Ellen Roma. Sr. Bernadette grew up in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Girls' Catholic High School in 1940. She entered the Discalced Carmelite Monastery in Bronx, NY in 1943 and made her Profession of Vows in 1945. In 1949, she transferred to the Carmelite Monastery in Oklahoma City where she lived a life of prayer and generously served the Church and the whole world for more than 50 years. A vigil service will be held at the Carmelite Monastery of St. Joseph, 20,000 N. County Line Rd. at 7:30 P.M. Sunday, March 28th and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the monastery at 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 29. SMITH & KERNKE
